Welcome to SCDC Dance School. Here you’ll find answers to some of the questions we are most frequently asked by parents, carers and students.

What is SCDC Dance School?

SCDC Dance School is a dance and performing arts school in Stoke-on-Trent, established in 2011. We welcome students of different ages and abilities and offer a range of dance and performance classes.

We currently offer the following classes:

Do you offer toddler classes?

Yes. We offer Toddler Classes for children aged 2+.

Do you offer classes for older children and adults?

Yes. We have classes for different age groups, including ages 2+, 6+, 9+, 12+ and 21+. The appropriate age group depends on the individual class and timetable.

Do you offer SEND classes?

Yes. We offer an inclusive SEND Dance Class for children with special educational needs and disabilities, including neurodivergent children.

Do you offer dance examinations?

Yes. We teach the BBO syllabus and students can take part in annual exams.

Can my child try a class before joining?

Yes. New students are welcome to try a class free of charge. Please book your trial in advance, as classes can reach capacity.

Do I need to book a trial in advance?

Yes. Please contact us or book your trial in advance so that we can check availability and make sure there is a place for your child.

What should my child wear?

You do not need to purchase a uniform for your child’s first class. Comfortable clothing that allows your child to move freely is suitable. SCDC uniform is also available if you would like your child to wear it.

Can parents watch their child’s class?

Yes. You can wait at SCDC and watch your child’s class through our viewing windows from the designated waiting area.

Can I accompany my child to the viewing gallery?

Yes. Parents can accompany their children to the viewing gallery/viewing area so that they can watch the class.

Can parents stay in the room during a toddler class?

No. For our under-5 toddler classes, parents do not stay in the room where the children are learning. Your child takes part in the class with their teacher while you can use the designated viewing arrangements.

This allows children to participate in the class independently while parents and carers can still watch them from the viewing area.

How much do classes cost?

Our prices start from £4.50 per class. The cost varies depending on the class.

How are class fees paid?

Classes are paid for monthly in advance to secure your child’s place.

Is there a joining fee?

Yes, there is a joining fee of £20. Please note that if you leave SCDC and subsequently re-join, a joining fee will need to be paid again.

What should I do when I arrive at SCDC for the first time?

When you arrive for the first time, please report to our main reception. New students will receive a welcome pack containing the information they need to attend SCDC.

Where should parents park?

Please be considerate of our local residents when parking. You can park on the side roads, but please do not block driveways.

Please do not park on Prior Close cul-de-sac.

Is the building wheelchair accessible?

Unfortunately, our premises are currently not disabled accessible. We are located on the first floor and access is via stairs only.

If you have accessibility requirements, please contact us before attending and we will be happy to discuss your needs.

Will my child get opportunities to perform?

Yes. We provide performance opportunities for our students and give them the chance to develop their skills and confidence in front of an audience.

Do you offer workshops?

Yes. We regularly host workshops with industry professionals from around the world, providing additional training and learning opportunities for our students.

Safeguarding

Is safeguarding taken seriously at SCDC?

Absolutely. The safety and wellbeing of our students is extremely important to us. We have a safeguarding policy covering children under 18 and setting out our procedures for protecting children and promoting their welfare.

Our safeguarding arrangements include staff checks, safeguarding training, parental consent, photography procedures and responding appropriately to safeguarding concerns.

What information do parents need to provide?

When your child joins SCDC, we ask parents and carers to provide the relevant consent information. Parents and carers can also access our safeguarding policy and are asked to confirm that they have read it.
